Israel Celebrates 60th Independence Day and Launches "Shanghai Jews" Database and Israel-China Relations Exhibition

On June 6, the Consulate General of Israel in Shanghai, in collaboration with the Hongkou District People’s Government, held a ceremony to launch the “Shanghai Jews” Database and to open the “Israel-China Relations” Exhibition marking Israel’s 60th Independence Day at the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum (the former Ohel Moshe Synagogue).

 

After a minute of silence for the victims of the earthquake in Sichuan Province, Mr. Uri Gutman, Consul General of Israel and Mr. Yu Beihua, District Mayor of Hongkou both made remarks during the ceremony, and later on launched the “Shanghai Jews” Database, which was established with donations from Israeli companies and will host information about some 30,000 Jews who took refuge in Shanghai during the 1930s and 1940s.

Israel to donate 1.5 million US dollars for China Earthquake Relief


Israel announced today that it would donate 1.5 million dollars of aid for earthquake relief in Sichuan, China.

 

The decision was conveyed officially today by Israel’s Charge d’Affaires to the Foreign Ministry in Beijing.

 

The Israeli donation will include emergency medical and relief supplies in accordance with the priorities conveyed by the Chinese side. The aid will arrive in the coming days by special plane from Israel to Chengdu.

 

“Israel continues to watch with the deepest concern and distress the ongoing tragedy being faced by China and its people in the wake of the earthquake”, said Israel’s Ambassador to China Amos Nadai today. “The outpouring of sentiment in our country is deep and genuine. As longstanding friends of the Chinese people, we are committed to doing everything we can to help at this critical time.”

"Shanghai Week" in Israel - June 2 - 4, 2008

In celebration of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the "Sister Cities" relationship between Shanghai and Haifa, “Shanghai Week” was held from June 2 – 4, 2008 in Israel.  Shanghai Week was a comprehensive event combining a series of cultural, economic and trade activities, jointly organized by CCPIT Shanghai Sub-Council, the Israel Export Institute, the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce, the Manufacturers Association of Israel and the Israel-Asia Chamber of Commerce.

 

The visit coincided with the China (Shanghai) Economic & Trade Cooperation Exhibition in Tel Aviv on June 3, which in turn, was part of Shanghai's first ever trade show in Israel.

Agreement Signed between MASHAV, Shanghai Children’s Hospital, Schneider Hospital, and Project Hope

On June 1st, a signing ceremony was held extending the cooperation agreement between MASHAV, Shanghai Children’s Hospital, Schneider Hospital, and Project Hope.  The agreement stated that the four parties will continue to finance the training of doctors in Israel at Schneider Hospital.

Israel signed ADS tourism agreement with China

In addition to meeting Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Livni signed a document designating Israel an “approved destination” for Chinese tourists, and paving the way for a huge increase in tourism from China.

Group tourism packages from China are only possible to countries that have this designation, and Israel has been working on such an agreement with the Asian country for approximately two years.

The Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying it saw expanding tourism between the two countries as an “important factor in developing” strong ties between the two countries.

Israel Renovates Hongkou Elders’ Activity Center

On June 6, 2007 at 10:00, the Consulate General of Israel, in collaboration with the Hongkou District government and with the support of the Shanghai Charity Foundation, will inaugurate a newly renovated elderly activities-center in Huoshan Park, to honor the elderly residents of Hongkou district who helped to absorb Jewish refugees before and during WWII and lived with them side by side in this neighborhood.

 

 

This year the Consulate General of Israel decided to mark Israel’s 59th national day by – in some way - repaying the generation that absorbed Jewish refugees in Shanghai, instead of with a traditional national-day reception.  The Consulate believes it’s a more meaningful way that will both benefit the residents of the area and demonstrate the strong bond between the Jewish people, Israel and China.

National Agent Agreement

 The National Agent agreement between the Israeli Ministry of Finance and CIECC was signed in early January. The objective of this agreement is to facilitate the entrance of Israeli companies into the Chinese market, by allowing CIECC to lead their business development, marketing and sales efforts in China.
 

CIECC (www.ciecc.com.cn) is a Chinese government-owned company that handles approvals for national bidding and provides economic & financial advice to major government-owned companies & several Provinces in China.

 

According to this agreement, the Israeli government will pay CIECC a retainer for its efforts. Up to one third of the retainer will be covered by the Israeli company for the service that will be provided by CIECC. The Israeli company will pay also a success fee that will be negotiated separately.
